Full-time, long-term contract based in Malta

Stargate Studios Malta is looking for a Compositing Supervisor to join its team in Malta. The role calls for a responsible individual  to direct and oversee the work of our VFX Compositing team, providing technical and artistic leadership while working on specific TV series or feature film projects. The ideal candidate should be extremely organised and motivated, with the desire to work within a team.

We are looking for a person with:

Essential Functions

  • Work with the Supervision team to plan the creative approach to projects, whilst setting up workflows in order to ensure a consistent and efficient pipeline;
  • Work with the Project Coordinator and Producer to facilitate scheduling of artists and resources;
  • Work with the VFX Supervisor/s to provide artistic and technical notes to the team throughout the creative and technical process and deliver a high standard of work;
  • Apply his/her organisational experience in delivering shots on time and within budget;
  • Apply his/her shot supervision experience to the Company’s VFX operation;
  • Apply his/her experience in compositing, tracking, grading, rotoscopy, plate preparation, paint, clean up and all general 2D techniques, image formats, photographic principles, image processing methods, etc. to the Company’s VFX operation;
  • Carry out Research & Development;
  • Follow the seamless integration of CG elements through all stages of compositing;
  • Work ''on the box'' as an artist as show size and needs may require;
  • Carry out Quality Control and Assurance;
  • Manage and coordinate Dailies meeting as and when required;
  • Stay motivated and motivate team members;
  • Lead by example and act as a reference point for all artists;

  • Excellent creative eye and aesthetic judgment;
  • Ability to sell creative solutions and ideas to clients and VFX Supervisors;
  • Strong attention to detail, critical thinking and ability to reduce complex problems to their most simple solutions;
  • Thorough understanding of the complete VFX pipeline;
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure;
  • High level expertise in using Nuke and proficient in other industry standard software;
  • Willing and able to learn new skills & technologies;
  • Time-management skills, the ability to prioritise workload combined with a sense of urgency, work well under pressure and meet multiple critical deadlines daily;
  • Must have exceptional communication skills (both written and verbal) in English, as well as active listening skills;
  • Proficiency in other languages.
  • Ready to relocate to Malta.
